Sanctions Live Screening

SGR offers an advanced solution for accessing “live” updates on sanctions. This solution allows near real-time consultation of changes to targeted financial sanctions imposed by international sanctions regimes.

The Live Sanctions Screening module enables Payment Service Providers (PSPs) and financial institutions to perform near-real-time searches across primary sanctions lists. In line with Regulation (EU) 2024/886, the Instant Payments Regulation (IPR), PSPs offering euro-denominated instant credit transfers must conduct daily sanctions screening of their Payment Service Users (PSUs) instead of per-transaction checks.

The solution supports this regulatory shift by providing continuous, automated, and compliant sanctions screening, ensuring regulatory alignment, operational efficiency, and uninterrupted instant-payment processing.

Key features

The Live Sanctions Screening module empowers users to execute near-real-time checks against global sanctions lists.
By integrating high-frequency list updates, de-duplication and structured access to data, our solution reduces false positives, supports compliance officers in meeting regulatory deadlines and enables seamless instant payment flows.

This module supports several concrete operational scenarios:

Onboarding / periodic review of PSUs: During account opening and periodic reviews, Sanctions Live Screening enables the institution to verify instantly whether the PSU appears on primary sanctions list, thereby embedding upfront compliance rigour.

Continuous monitoring of existing portfolios: As new restrictive measures come into force or changes are made to existing sanctions lists, the module triggers immediate re-screening of affected PSUs, thereby complying with the “immediately after entry into force” requirement under the Regulation (EU) 2024/886 (the Instant Payments Regulation, IPR).

Instant payments context: For PSPs required to support instant euro-denominated credit transfers under the IPR, the module allows the shift from transaction-based screening to continuous PSU screening — thereby reducing the burden of per-payment screening and avoiding delays in the instant-payments flow.

Read the insight

The Live Sanctions Screening module is ideally suited for compliance professionals engaged in the evolving instant-payments environment. At the heart of its audience are the Compliance Officers and Heads of AML/CTF at banks, payment institutions, electronic money institutions (EMIs) and payment service providers (PSPs) that must adhere to Regulation (EU) 2024/886 (also known as the Instant Payments Regulation – IPR). These leaders are accountable for embedding robust sanctions- and watchlist-screening logic into their 24/7 instant payments operations and for demonstrating regulatory compliance.

It supports Payment Operations & Risk Teams in embedding quick, reliable screening into 24/7 payment flows, while IT/RegTech teams benefit from seamless API and on-premise integration.

The module can be accessed through multiple channels to accommodate different operational models and integration requirements:

API Integration: RESTful API endpoints allow seamless connection to the PSP’s core systems (customer-onboarding, payments platform, KYC/AML system) enabling automated screening at defined points in the workflow (onboarding, periodic review, real-time triggers).

Data On Premise: For organisations requiring full control of data residency, performance or internal infrastructure constraints, the module supports on-premise installation of the sanctions dataset enabling localised screening and integration within the Client's environment.
